The game has three gameplay styles which are fast-paced platforming, multidirectional shooting and action-adventure exploration respectively for Sonic and Shadow, Tails and Eggman, and Knuckles and Rouge. The game was a commercial success and combined sales of Dreamcast and GameCube versions were more then two million worldwide.
