Explore Animal Books Together
Read nonfiction books about animals. Ask your child to identify the main idea and supporting details.
Use sticky notes to mark interesting facts or new vocabulary.
Use Text Features
Look at headings, captions, and diagrams. Ask your child how these help them understand the text better.
Practice Sequencing
After reading, ask your child to retell the events or facts in order using words like “first,” “next,” and “finally.”
Write About Animals
Encourage your child to write a short report or story about their favorite animal using facts they’ve learned.
Help them include a beginning, middle, and end.
Create a Multimodal Project
Let your child create a poster, slideshow, or video about an animal. Include pictures, labels, and facts.
Poetry Fun
Read animal poems together. Then, try writing a simple poem about an animal using rhyming or descriptive words.
Research Together
Use books or safe websites to find answers to your child’s animal questions. Help them take notes and share what they learned.
