Our research focuses on developing the high-strength metallic materials that are suitable for hydrogen-based infrastructure.
Hydrogen is envisioned as future energy carrier, however, the diffusion of atomic hydrogen into high-strength metallic materials leads to their embrittlement. We hence need to develop the materials that can be used safely in hydrogen-rich atmosphere.
Our research involves the microstructure-oriented design of novel materials whose mechanical properties are investigated in the presence of hydrogen. Subsequently, the effect of hydrogen on the microstructure is determined by using advanced characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography.
