1) What are your assumptions about the word Performance Art? Can you provide a definition of what you think that means?
Performance art is a form of public humiliation as all good art is. More experimental than traditional acting. People doing weird dances in the street dressed scantily. Experimental music blasting in the background. It’s one of those mediums that is undefinable. A way to express a part of the human experience and the horror and miracle of having a fleshy body. In this world we have created, you are constantly told what and how to do things. It is a reminder that you are a person with autonomy and freedom to do anything and break any socially constructed rules.
2) Can you share a link to a video of something you would consider to be performance art? It does not need to be correct, but should be honest and reflect your larger art interests. We will watch these in class.
Stop after the tidal screen. (My sister took the video while visiting New York.)
3) What do you want to get out of the class? What anxieties do you have about the class?
I want to have the opportunity to perform and do weird shit with fellow artists in the context of a class where it gives me a reason and excuse to do weird shit. Performance is a medium I have never tried before and I’m really excited to explore the possibilities; excited to be awkward and anxious. Put me there, in front of a crowd. Throw me to the wolves. Drop me off in the deep end. Let’s do this scared. I guess I’m worried I won’t be able to do it, but I know I will. It’s not that deep, it’s gonna be so fun actually. My favorite class I’ve ever had in these five years. No pressure.
I tried setting up https://neocites.nekoweb.org/ and Zonelets for blogging, but Neocities isn't letting me make an account :(
Might check out https://bearblog.dev/ if I can't get neocities to work doesn't work.
