About my education and aspirations:

I began my journey in dental hygiene at St. Clair College, where I acquired an advanced diploma in 2021. I was eager to elevate my career further, so I enrolled into a bridge program for my dental hygiene degree completion at the University of Detroit Mercy, where I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 2022. This step was important as I became interested in taking on more leadership roles and expanding my scope of practice, including the opportunity to become a clinical and didactic instructor of dental hygiene.

As I progressed in the field of dental hygiene, I learned about the link between function and form, and how malocclusion and malalignment of the oral structures is often a result of poor tongue posture, breathing issues, and incorrect swallow patterns. I became very invested in myofunctional therapy, and discovered the positive impact of this therapy on the quality of life  and overall health of individuals affected by it. Hence, I decided to join a 7 week program to enhance my understanding and practice of myofunctional therapy. I then received my certificate of completion and began practicing in 2024.

Currently, I am expanding my expertise even further by pursuing the Masters of Health Studies degree with a focus in teaching at Athabasca University. This advancement in education will empower me and equip me to hold leadership positions in education where I can make substantial impact in  teaching dental hygiene and myofunctional therapy at a college or university level. I am very excited about the future an the opportunities that lie ahead!
