At some point in your life, you've probably heard the term hard water. I had heard it but never really knew what it meant. There are so many amazing things you learn about when you're an adult #amIright
So what in the world is this stuff, how do you know if you have it and good gravy, how do you get rid of it?
What is Hard Water vs. Soft Water
Water that has a high mineral content is referred to as hard water. These minerals are things like magnesium and calcium.
Soft water generally has higher concentrations of sodium (salt).
How to Tell if You Have Hard Water
You probably have hard water if:
your hands feel like they have a film on it after washing
you see spots on glasses or silverware when it comes out of the dishwasher
water pressure in the home seems low
lime and calcium deposits on kitchen and bathroom sinks, fixtures, bathtubs, shower doors
there's a milky white substance around faucets and drains (this is limescale aka calcium carbonate)
Click here for more "sciency" information on hard vs soft water.
You've got a rust stain around your bathtub drain and you've tried everything you can think of but can't seem to get rid of it.
You don't want to use all the chemically products because hello, you bathe your kiddo's and dogs in the bathtub so what's the option?
How to Remove Hard Water Stains
Now that you've figured out you've got them, how do you get rid of them? And what about calcium deposits? How do you get rid of calcium deposits?
The Norwex Descaler is amazing! It's one of the products that totally sold me on Norwex. I had tried for years, and I mean years, to get my shower door clean enough I could clearly see through it but nothing and I mean nothing worked.
I sprayed the Norwex Descaler on the shower door, let it sit for probably about 7 or so minutes and then practically just wiped it away, with all the soap scum and whatever else was on there. Towards the bottom of the door I had to use a little scrubbing muscle because that soap scum and stuff was built up but the door was finally crystal clear!
Remember, what goes on in layers comes off in layers so it may take a few attempts to see clearly.
I used the Bathroom Scrub Mitt in the picture below but now that we have the EnviroScrubs, I really like those as well.
The Norwex Descaler
removes soap scum, lime/scale, calcium and rust stains
removes hard-water stains around taps and drains
removes mineral stains where water has consistently dripped on a surface (that pesky dripping sink)
works well on porcelain, ceramic tile, fiberglass, stainless steel, aluminum, vinyl and plastic (shower curtains)
consists of natural glucuronic acid, organic orange peel extract and sodium gluconate
contains no aerosol propellants
not tested on animals
A few things to note, don't use on or in
