Heart Hub Adaptive Playground
As a caring group of school staff the members of the W.E.C.P. (Willoughby-Eastlake Classified Professionals) Union it was decided to allocate "Sunshine Club" funds where they could do the most good in our school community. Meeting the needs of students with Multiple Disabilities served at Royalview Elementary became a priority; and the Heart Hub Adaptive Playground project was born.
These students (formerly identified as Multiple Handicapped) are children who have various medical, physical, and cognitive needs and require a team of specialized staff to support their education.
Despite all that their team can and does provide, these children are still missing out on the simple joys of recess - a time to play, socialize and have fun! More simply stated, they don’t have a playground / space adapted to their needs. They need a space with wheelchair access, A.D.A. (American Disabilities Act) approved equipment designed to support their mobility and sensory limitations.
