Compost Project

Let’s recognize the incredible progress we’ve made!

• Charlotte and Bill worked on a plan for pest mitigation

• Bill designed a compost bin system for that purpose, and Peter R and Bill have collaborated to refine and execute the design.

• Matt K, Peter R, Peter C, Bruk, Suzanne, Eric D, and many others worked to remove the excess compost from the compost plots.

• Kate C, had the city come and remove compost

• Many people have chosen to enclose their plots. 

• Peter R, Peter C, and Bill laid out the location for  compost bin system post holes for plots 9, 19, and 24.

• Antonio MG brought in someone to dig the first portion of those holes.

• Eric D and Peter C finished the holes for plot 24

• Amanda C, Antonio, and Bill each made Home Depot runs to pick up parts of the order that was available for building the compost bin systems

• Amanda C picked up the part of the Home Depot wood order that was available for building the compost bin systems

• Peter R and Bill enclosed the base of the shed, stabilized the wooden stand, and took apart the wooden structure that was the shed adjacent to the compost bin.

• Joe W worked at cutting back the overgrowth along poolside fence

• Jude cleaned up and reduced clutter beside the shed

• Many people showed up to help at moments we thought when we thought we had things to do but didn't.

• Peter R and Bill assuring that we have enough of the right tools and materials. 

• Identifying tasks that needed ownership:

  • • creating plywood template                                                         

    • light sanding of cedar planks

    • applying linseed oil to the planks for weather protection

    • coordination                                                                                

    • post leveling support

    • concrete supervising                                                                   

    • concrete mixing

    • wheelbarrow driving

    • concrete pouring and tamping

    • post stabilizing [post pouring]

    • wood frame building  

    • attaching mesh to posts 

    • cleaning up

    • celebrating
