We are pleased to announce that our research paper, “A Rule-Based Decision-Support System for Personalized Health Risk Assessment of Packaged Foods,” has been published in Proceedings of Science (PoS).

The study was presented at the Citizen Science for Health 2025 Conference, held at ETH Zurich on 6–7 November 2025. The conference brought together researchers, citizens, healthcare professionals, patient organisations and policymakers under the theme “From Personal to Global Health – Bridging Communities through Citizen Science.”

Developed within a citizen science framework, the study introduces a rule-based digital decision-support system that evaluates the potential health risks of packaged foods. The system analyses product information and provides personalised assessments according to individual characteristics such as age group, gender, pregnancy and breastfeeding status. Its aim is to help citizens understand food labels more easily and make better-informed dietary choices.

The scientific and technical development of the system, including its data analysis and decision-making structure, was primarily carried out by Ata Kırmacı, with guidance and support from Hatice Kırmacı throughout the research and reporting process.

This publication represents an important step in our efforts to connect citizen science, digital health, food literacy and responsible technology. It also demonstrates how young researchers can contribute meaningfully to addressing real-world health challenges through interdisciplinary and socially relevant innovation.
