"The greatest medicine of all is to teach people how not to need it." — Hippocrates
That philosophy is at the heart of everything we do at The Healing Place. Functional medicine is not about managing your condition indefinitely or suppressing symptoms with medications that never address what is actually wrong. It is about finding out why your body is struggling, correcting it at the source, and restoring the kind of vibrant, lasting health that makes you feel like yourself again.
If you have seen multiple providers, received test results that came back "normal," and still do not feel well—you are not alone. And you are not out of options. Functional medicine was built for exactly this kind of situation.
Functional medicine is a holistic, science-based approach to health that combines the wisdom of natural healing with advanced laboratory testing and innovative therapies to restore balance in the body's physiological systems. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, it uncovers the root causes of health concerns and addresses the individual as a whole—body, mind, lifestyle, history, and environment all considered together.
Where conventional medicine asks "What disease do you have and what drug treats it?", functional medicine asks a more powerful set of questions: Why is this happening? What are the underlying imbalances that are driving these symptoms? What does this person's body actually need to heal?
The answers to those questions lead to something most patients have never experienced before—a care plan that is truly personalized, genuinely comprehensive, and built to create lasting change rather than temporary relief.
The conventional Western medical model was designed for acute care. It is extraordinarily effective at treating emergencies—a heart attack, an appendicitis, a broken bone. When you need urgent intervention, conventional medicine is exactly where you should be.
But chronic illness is a different problem entirely. And the tools designed for acute care are poorly suited to address it.
We are living through an alarming rise in conditions like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia, and autoimmune disorders—including Hashimoto's thyroiditis, celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis. These conditions are deeply influenced by nutrition, lifestyle, environmental exposures, and the accumulated stress on the body over time. They do not respond well to a single medication. They cannot be diagnosed with a single test. And they cannot be managed by a model that looks at each system of the body in isolation.
Six in ten adults in the United States are currently living with a chronic disease. Despite spending more per person on healthcare than any comparable wealthy nation, the United States falls behind in international rankings of longevity and overall health outcomes. We are spending more and getting less because we are treating symptoms, not causes.
Functional medicine exists to change that.
The difference between functional medicine and conventional medicine is not just philosophical—it is practical, measurable, and deeply felt by the patients who experience it.
Conventional medicine looks at the body in parts. Functional medicine looks at the whole person. It begins by deeply listening to your story—your health history, your symptoms, your lifestyle, the patterns that have emerged over time—and then uses that information alongside advanced laboratory testing to build a complete picture of what is happening in your body and why.
One of the most significant differences lies in how lab results are interpreted. In conventional medicine, your results are compared against pathological ranges—statistical averages drawn from the general population. If your numbers fall within that range, you are considered healthy. But here is the problem: that range is based on data collected from people who are already sick. With more than half of the American population suffering from chronic illness, "normal" by that standard is not the same as optimal.
Functional medicine uses functional ranges instead—tighter, research-backed parameters established by organizations like the American Association of Clinical Chemists that reflect what is truly optimal for human physiology. This distinction matters enormously, because it means we can identify dysfunction before it turns into disease, address imbalances early using natural therapies and lifestyle strategies, and help you prevent the chronic conditions that conventional medicine waits to diagnose until they have already taken hold.
In practical terms: if your conventional doctor has told you that your labs look normal but you still feel exhausted, inflamed, foggy, or unwell, functional medicine may reveal exactly what they missed.
Conventional medicine often relies on medications or surgery to manage symptoms. While this can bring short-term relief, it frequently masks the underlying condition—allowing it to persist, progress, or worsen over time, particularly in cases of chronic disease.
Functional medicine takes a fundamentally different path. Rather than suppressing symptoms, we work to identify and correct the imbalances that are generating them in the first place. Using natural therapies—targeted nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and evidence-based supplementation—we support the body's own physiological processes and help it achieve the balance it is designed to maintain.
This approach does not just make you feel better temporarily. It removes the obstacles that interfere with your body's innate ability to heal, replenishes what may be lacking or depleted, and creates the internal conditions in which true recovery is possible. The goal is not management. The goal is restoration.
When you come to The Healing Place for functional medicine care, you will experience something genuinely different from the first moment you walk in.
Your initial consultation is a full hour—unhurried, thorough, and focused entirely on understanding you. Dr. Anthony or Dr. Amy Putrus will take the time to review your complete health history, listen carefully to your concerns, and begin building a picture of the patterns and root causes that may be driving what you are experiencing. This is not a checklist visit. It is a real conversation.
From there, we will recommend advanced laboratory testing tailored to your specific situation. Our functional medicine team has access to comprehensive testing that goes far beyond what most conventional providers order—assessing nutrient levels, hormonal function, inflammatory markers, gut health, metabolic performance, and more. These tests give us the precise, objective data we need to design a care plan that is specific to you, not a generic protocol.
Your second appointment, the report of findings, takes approximately 45 minutes. This is where we walk you through exactly what we discovered, explain what it means in plain language, and present a clear, personalized plan to address your root causes and move you toward optimal health. You will leave with answers—and with a path forward that finally makes sense.
Throughout your care, we provide access to high-quality, high-potency professional-grade supplements that are not available over the counter. We also integrate closely with our neurological chiropractic care when appropriate, because the health of your nervous system plays a profound role in every physiological process in your body. Together, these two disciplines create a comprehensive approach to healing that is greater than either one alone.
Functional medicine at The Healing Place is for anyone who is tired of not getting answers. It is for the patient who has been told their labs are normal but knows something is wrong. It is for the person managing a chronic condition who wants to address it at the root rather than take medication indefinitely. It is for the family that wants to take a proactive approach to health before problems develop. And it is for the parent who is searching for a more comprehensive, root-cause approach to their child's developmental or health challenges.
We have worked with patients navigating hormonal imbalances, chronic fatigue, gut dysfunction, thyroid disorders, metabolic concerns, anxiety, brain fog, immune dysfunction, and a wide range of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. We have worked with children struggling with ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, and developmental delays. We have supported women through pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and hormonal transitions at every stage of life.
Whatever you are facing, if you have not found the answers you need through conventional care, functional medicine may be exactly what you have been looking for.
Your initial consultation lasts approximately one hour. Your report of findings appointment, where we review your results and present your personalized care plan, takes about 45 minutes. Ongoing chiropractic appointments are typically around five minutes.
We do not accept insurance. The cost of services is due according to your chosen service, and we offer a payment plan for our comprehensive care package. We made this decision intentionally—not accepting insurance allows us to provide you with the highest quality care without third-party interference in your health decisions.
Most of the advanced lab testing we recommend is not readily available through a primary care physician. Some may be, and you are always welcome to ask your doctor. However, the comprehensive panels we use to identify root causes and functional imbalances are typically not part of standard conventional workups.
When it comes to supplements, you can certainly order your own, though it is not something we typically recommend. Supplement quality varies enormously in the consumer market, and professional-grade products—which our functional medicine team has access to—are held to significantly higher standards of potency and purity. We pass that access along to our patients.
If you have already seen specialists and are wondering how this is different, the answer lies in the approach. Specialists are trained to look at individual systems or organs in isolation—which is valuable in many contexts but often leaves the underlying picture incomplete. Functional medicine looks at the whole person, using advanced testing and personalized strategies to uncover root causes like nutrient imbalances, chronic inflammation, toxin exposure, hormonal dysfunction, and hidden infections. Combined with neurological chiropractic care, it does not just aim to manage disease—it works to restore health from the inside out.
We offer a Health Questionnaire designed to give us an initial picture of your body's signals and help us understand what you are experiencing before your first visit. Taking a few minutes to complete it allows us to begin building your functional medicine plan from day one.
True health is not the absence of disease. It is the presence of vitality, energy, clarity, and resilience. It is waking up each morning feeling like your body is working for you, not against you. That is what functional medicine at The Healing Place is designed to help you achieve.
If you are ready to find real answers and take a genuinely different approach to your health, we would be honored to be your partner. Schedule your first consultation today and take the first step toward healing from the root up.
