The Health behavior, Exercise, and Aging Lab (HEAL) is dedicated to developing and translating evidence-based exercise interventions for older adults with or without functional limitations through the provision of tailored habit formation interventions designed to enhance physical activity level and function.
The principal investigator Yi-Ling Hu, PhD, MSOT, is committed to conducting clinical, translational research that will promote successful aging in the community. The two important functions of the Lab are to:
1. Teach best practice of tailored exercise programs using habit and routine formation strategies for older adults to a wide variety of learners
2. Translating the research findings into everyday Occupational Therapy clinical practice by identifying and resolving barriers to implementation
We aim to develop and disseminate evidence-based fall prevention programs including home modification and functional exrcise programs.
We aim to develop and disseminate frailty prevention tailored to older adults individual facilitators and barriers in their home, including functional exercise and nutrition programs.
We aim to conduct secondary data analysis studies with publically available databases to understand the barriers and facilitators of successful aging with a specific focus on health service utilization.
