Dr. Marta Jankowska joined the data science panel discussion at the 2024 City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center Annual Retreat.
Scientists and physicians of the City of Hope National Medical Center gathered at the comprehensive cancer center annual retreat event to review and discuss the year of scientific findings and services in the catchment area. During the data science panel discussion, Dr. Jankowska emphasizes the power for improved data transparency across the organization to push towards a broader impact within and beyond the catchment area.
Paper led by Dr. Calvin Tribby, which estimated overall, by sex, and by race and ethnicity walking behaviors in the cancer survivor population, published in Journal of Cancer Survivorship.
This study estimated overall, by sex, and by race and ethnicity walking behaviors in the cancer survivor population, where prevalence is not known, compared to those without cancer. Volume of leisure walking was found to be higher for cancer survivors compared to those without cancer (Link).

Cancer InFocus | City of Hope, a web application that serves data visualization and exploration for the catchment area, is launched and publicly available.
Cancer InFocus is a data gathering and visualization platform designed by the Markey Cancer Center to make understanding the cancer burden in a geographic area easier. City of Hope is a licensed member to develop and host our own Cancer InFocus platform as adapted by Dr. Calvin Tribby (Link to application).
Paper led by Dr. Marta Jankowska, on the impact of sedentary time measures on metabolic syndrome, published in Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities.

Paper led by Anaïs Teyton, on the impact of greenspace exposure on metabolic biomarkers, published in ISEE Journal of Environmental Epidemiology.
This study improves understanding of the relationship between greenspace exposure and metabolic risk biomarkers and builds evidence for the potential positive effects of increasing green spaces in urban environments. As metabolic syndrome is a growing public health concern in the United States, identifying population-level strategies to reduce this risk is critical. (Link)
