The Why behind an LTRG: The purpose of a Long-Term Recovery Group is to have a designated, centralized, coordinating group of partnering organizations whose common goal is to assist the impacted individuals and families in the community with their Long-Term Recovery. LTRGs encourage community participation and the pooling together of resources to get the most out of the recovery effort. LTRGs also help to communicate up-to-date information, organize volunteers, bring in targeted resources and money, and capture the story of your community’s disaster. This ensures that you can recover together, gather valuable information, and apply what is learned throughout the recovery process to the community’s overall resilience for future disasters (source: VOAD LTR Guide)
LTRG Committees: The LTRG for Henderson County Communities has identified committees listed at the top of this page for the Henderson County LTRG. Each committee will have a Chair whose duties will include scheduling and leading the meetings, creating agendas and minutes, and serving on the LTRG Board of Directors. These duties can be split between a Chair and co-Chair in the way that works best for each committee. Different committees will meet with different frequencies as needed. For example, some may meet monthly while others will need to meet and coordinate more frequently.
Initial committee tasks include:
1) Meet and learn who is at the table and identify who is missing, and assign outreach assignments to encourage missing parties to participate
2) Create a list to identify partners and resources at the table along with their specific area of expertise, this is started in the contact list provided and can be built out with more information/detail.
3) Make short term goals for the committee
4) Identify leadership and support (including which co-chairperson will serve on the LTRG Board)
5) Talk about the other committees and which it is especially important to have ongoing dialogue with, consider if it makes sense to have a member serve on both committees
6) Determine a meeting time and location that works for your group
7) Make a plan for the next meeting and action items to be accomplished between now and then
