Interview #1
Hi, I would like to start by thanking you for taking time out of your schedule for this interview. The purpose of this interview is to obtain important data for a project, though at this time I am unable to tell you what this project actually is. Some questions may seem a bit personal but you can choose how to answer them or to skip any question that you don’t feel comfortable answering.
Q: Why don’t you start by telling me who you are and what you do?
A: Okay. My name is Kera and I’m currently a graphic design major at Felician University.
Q: How would you describe your current sleeping habits?
A: Well I would say that my current sleeping habit is pretty terrible if I’m being honest. I go to bed pretty late and have to force myself to wake up in the morning.
Q: About how much of your time, when you are awake, is spent on doing work?
A: Well, a lot of my time is spent on getting work done for classes. I wake up, open my laptop, sign into Zoom, listen to my professor give a lecture, then try to get a little work done before my next class, though I usually get most of my work done at night. Some nights I only stop for dinner and to walk the dog.
Q: Does it interfere with time that would normally be spent sleeping?
A: Yes, I would say it does. I stay up late trying to get my work done a lot.
Q: Around what time do you normally fall asleep?
A: Let me think… I guess I would say that I usually fall asleep around 2:30 to 3:00 in the morning. I would go to bed sooner if I could.
Q: Do you often take naps during the day?
A: Sometimes I do. I have some early morning classes and, because I feel so tired in the morning, I take a nap as soon as the class ends to get a little more sleep.
Q: How would you describe the way you feel upon waking up in the morning?
A: I’d say I feel pretty tired in the morning when I wake up. Especially on the days when I have those early morning classes. I fall asleep late but I have to get up early.
Q: Does that feeling linger throughout the day?
A: It depends. If I have to get up early then it usually does unless I have time for a short nap. But, on days when I don’t have to get up too early I’m usually fine after a few minutes.
Q: How would you describe your current sleep schedule?
A: I guess I’d say it’s kind of a mess. I stay up so late working on assignments so I have no choice but to go to bed late most nights. After I finish I just lie in bed until I can fall asleep.
Q: How well do you feel you have been able to balance your time to get your work done and get a healthy amount of sleep?
A: Not too well I guess. Like I said, I stay up late doing work and take naps sometimes. My sleep schedule is pretty far from healthy.
Q: How does the idea of someone else building a schedule for your daily activities make you feel?
A: Sounds pretty good to me. I hate having to try to plan everything out, which is why I really don’t anymore. Having someone else create a schedule for me would help a lot.
Q: Do you often stay on schedule when it comes to getting work done and sleeping?
A: No, I really don’t. I tried to stay on a schedule at first but I wasn’t really sticking to it so I stopped trying to plan everything out.
Q: Do you feel any level of stress from your current work?
A: Oh, yes I do. The amount of work that I have from my classes is constantly stressing me out and I’m always worried that I’m going to forget about an assignment or something.
Q: Has this impacted your sleep schedule?
A: Yeah, I would say it has. In bed, I sometimes worry about the work that I have left to do.
Q: Do you have any sort of techniques that seem to help you fall asleep at night? Do any of these activities involve using a smart device or other type of technology?
A: I sometimes put on my headphones and listen to music or relaxing YouTube videos on my tablet.
Q: Do you currently use some kind of digital planner or scheduling app to keep track of when you need to attend certain events (class, meetings, etc.)?
A: No, not at the moment.
Q: Would you consider using one?
A: I would if it seemed like it would really help make keeping track of everything easier.
Q: Do you rely on an alarm of some sort to wake you up in the morning or are you able to wake yourself up?
A: I will set an alarm on my phone for days when I have early morning classes and need to make sure that I’m up on time. Otherwise, I don’t.
Q: Do you find keeping track of your schedule has an impact on your level of stress?
A: Yeah, it does, which is why I don’t plan everything out anymore.
Q: Does an app made to help you sleep sound interesting to you?
A: Definitely. I could really use a good night sleep and if there’s an app that could help me do that, then I would download it as soon as I could.
Okay, I think that should do it! The information that you have chosen to share with me during this interview will certainly be useful. I would like to once again thank you for your time and I would also like to thank you for your responses.
Interview #2
Hi, I would like to start by thanking you for taking time out of your schedule for this interview. The purpose of this interview is to obtain important data for a project, though at this time I am unable to tell you what this project actually is. Some questions may seem a bit personal but you can choose how to answer them or to skip any question that you don’t feel comfortable answering.
Q: Why don’t you start by telling me who you are and what you do?
A: My name is Louis, I’m a current Rutgers student double majoring in Engineering and Computer Science.
Q: How would you describe your current sleeping habits?
A: Well, I would say that my sleeping habits are not great. I’m always staying up late so I don’t really get much rest at night. I always have a ton of work to do every night so I usually have to stay up working.
Q: About how much of your time, when you are awake, is spent on doing work?
A: Almost all of it. I honestly haven’t gotten a day off outside of breaks in a long time.
Q: Does it interfere with time that would normally be spent sleeping?
A: Yeah, I have to stay up late working in order to get it all done on time.
Q: Around what time do you normally fall asleep?
A: I tend to fall asleep around 3:30 AM some of the time. This is about the time when I decide to just go to sleep and do more work in the morning. Although, it isn’t always the same and can change depending on what I’m working on and when it’s due.
Q: Do you often take naps during the day?
A: Yeah, I actually take quick naps a lot throughout the day since I feel pretty tired all the time. Sometimes, I feel like if I don’t take a short rest, I won’t be able to make it through the day.
Q: How would you describe the way you feel upon waking up in the morning?
A: Well since I tend to go to bed so late, I end up feeling exhausted when I wake up in the morning, which is usually around 7:30 to 8 AM.
Q: Does that feeling linger throughout the day?
A: Yeah I’m pretty tired for a good amount of the day, which is why I take naps so often.
Q: How would you describe your current sleep schedule?
A: I would describe my current sleep schedule as being very unorganized. I sleep whenever I can so that I can stay awake and get all of my work done.
Q: How well do you feel you have been able to balance your time to get your work done and get a healthy amount of sleep?
A: I’d say not too well. I put much more effort into getting my work done than getting a good amount of sleep. There really isn’t any balance from me.
Q: How does the idea of someone else building a schedule for your daily activities make you feel?
A: Hmm. I might have to think about it. On the one hand, I guess it would make my current situation a lot easier. On the other hand, I’m not sure how I feel about someone else deciding when I should do things. I would definitely need to be able to have a say in how the schedule looks but I might like the idea.
Q: Do you often stay on schedule when it comes to getting work done and sleeping?
A: Sleeping? No. Getting work done? Yes. I don’t have an actual bedtime, I just decide to stop when it’s getting late and I’m too tired to work anymore. That being said though, I always try to stay on top of my work and get assignments done as soon as I possibly can.
Q: Do you feel any level of stress from your current work?
A: Yeah, I feel a lot of stress from my assignments. I’m double majoring in two difficult fields so I get bombarded with a lot of hard work.
Q: Has this impacted your sleep schedule?
A: Yeah, like I said, I stay up late working and have to take naps throughout the day to stay awake and get it all done. My stress level is very high because of all this so it can be hard to fall asleep with this going on in my head.
Q: Do you have any sort of techniques that seem to help you fall asleep at night? Do any of these activities involve using a smart device or other type of technology?
A: Not really. I actually just lay in bed until I can fall asleep.
Q: Do you currently use some kind of digital planner or scheduling app to keep track of when you need to attend certain events (class, meetings, etc.)?
A: No, but I sometimes write down when I have class or a meeting. Usually though, I tend to keep track in my head.
Q: Would you consider using one?
A: Yeah, I could. I really don’t have any actual kind of problem with a schedule app, I just don’t use one at the moment.
Q: Do you rely on an alarm of some sort to wake you up in the morning or are you able to wake yourself up?
A: Yeah, I either use the alarm on my phone or I use a small alarm clock to get myself up early every morning.
Q: Do you find keeping track of your schedule has an impact on your level of stress?
A: No, not really. I would say that keeping track of everything helps me make sure my work gets done on time. It’s just the work itself and meeting the deadlines that stress me out.
Q: Does an app made to help you sleep sound interesting to you?
A: Yeah, that sounds great, I would definitely be interested in an app that would help me sleep. Given how I currently get sleep, an app like that would actually be a big help.
Okay, I think that should do it! The information that you have chosen to share with me during this interview will certainly be useful. I would like to once again thank you for your time and I would also like to thank you for your responses.
Interview #3
Hi, I would like to start by thanking you for taking time out of your schedule for this interview. The purpose of this interview is to obtain important data for a project, though at this time I am unable to tell you what this project actually is. Some questions may seem a bit personal but you can choose how to answer them or to skip any question that you don’t feel comfortable answering.
Q: Why don’t you start by telling me who you are and what you do?
A: Sure, my name is Cora and I’m a recent Rutgers graduate. I majored in Engineering. I have a job at the moment but I am looking for a better one that relates to my major.
Q: How would you describe your current sleeping habits?
A: I would say my sleeping habits are pretty bad but I’m trying to improve them. They were a lot worse when I was at college. I was constantly staying up late and now I find it hard to fall asleep when I go to bed at night.
Q: About how much of your time, when you are awake, is spent on doing work?
A: Well, at the moment some of my work involves sending out resumes and having job interviews online. Besides that I also have my current job which isn’t too hard but can get a little hectic when there are a lot of customers. When I was still in college though, it seemed like all I did was work. I had my class assignments, my job on campus, and I did work for my sorority.
Q: Does it interfere with time that would normally be spent sleeping?
A: Not really anymore but it did when I was still at Rutgers.
Q: Around what time do you normally fall asleep?
A: I usually try to go to bed around midnight but I usually have a hard time falling asleep right away. It sometimes takes about an hour before I can finally fall asleep.
Q: Do you often take naps during the day?
A: No, generally I don’t take naps.
Q: How would you describe the way you feel upon waking up in the morning?
A: When I wake up in the morning I still feel tired when I wake up. Although when I have the day off from work I’ll sleep in so I’m not too tired on those days.
Q: Does that feeling linger throughout the day?
A: On the days when I don’t get to sleep in, that tired feeling doesn’t last past the morning. After around an hour I’m usually not that tired anymore.
Q: How would you describe your current sleep schedule?
A: My current sleep schedule is not too good but I think I’m slowly improving it. I used to really just sleep whenever I would get my work done at night. Now, I’m at least trying to keep track of when I should sleep, even if I can’t always follow through.
Q: How well do you feel you have been able to balance your time to get your work done and get a healthy amount of sleep?
A: I feel like I balanced my time not too well in the past but I’m getting a lot better now.
Q: How does the idea of someone else building a schedule for your daily activities make you feel?
A: I feel like I’m constantly making schedules but I think having someone help me would absolutely make things a lot easier on me.
Q: Do you often stay on schedule when it comes to getting work done and sleeping?
A: Yes, I would say that I’m pretty good at staying on schedule when it comes to getting work done. However, I can’t quite say the same for getting to sleep. I’m usually in bed when I need to be but I may not be asleep.
Q: Do you feel any level of stress from your current work?
A: My job isn’t too stressful. However, trying to find an engineering job isn’t easy, especially thanks to the pandemic, so that tends to put a bit of stress on me.
Q: Has this impacted your sleep schedule?
A: No, I don’t believe that the work that I am currently doing is having any kind of affect on my sleep schedule. My sleep schedule is bad thanks to the huge amount of work I had in college and it hasn’t recovered just yet.
Q: Do you have any sort of techniques that seem to help you fall asleep at night? Do any of these activities involve using a smart device or other type of technology?
A: Sometimes, when I’m really struggling to fall asleep, I like to meditate since I find it helps me clear my mind. Meditation is pretty relaxing for me. I sometimes will use my smartphone to play some calming sound effects in the background while I meditate.
Q: Do you currently use some kind of digital planner or scheduling app to keep track of when you need to attend certain events (class, meetings, etc.)?
A: I’m not sure if this counts but I use Google Sheets as a way of creating a schedule. It isn’t the best but I find it works fine. Often I make multiple schedules in Google Sheets, each keeping track of different things.
Q: Do you/would you use it to keep track of when to sleep as well?
A: As a matter of fact, I am currently using it for scheduling when I should try to sleep.
Q: Do you rely on an alarm of some sort to wake you up in the morning or are you able to wake yourself up?
A: No, I find I’m typically able to get myself up in the morning in time to get to work without any problems.
Q: Do you find keeping track of your schedule has an impact on your level of stress?
A: Yeah, I have multiple schedules that I feel like I have to keep track of, so I would say it does give me some stress.
Q: Does an app made to help you sleep sound interesting to you?
A: That sounds very interesting to me. I would really want to hear more about that and would certainly be willing to give it a try.
Okay, I think that should do it! The information that you have chosen to share with me during this interview will certainly be useful. I would like to once again thank you for your time and I would also like to thank you for your responses.
