AP World History: Modern
Health Careers HS Summer Assignment
Health Careers HS Summer Assignment
You must complete a summer assignment for two reasons.
First, it keeps your mind active and thinking about historical concepts when you are away from school. We want you to be ready to go when you return on August 10th.
Second, we must lay the foundations of history in order to get to the heart of the course. This course generally moves faster than AP Human Geography, with a more complex and conceptual structure. The general assumption with AP History courses is that the content not covered in class must be researched by students on their own outside of class. This is how to best adapt to the rigorous courseload of AP World History: Modern.
Our primary textbook will be AMSCO AP World History: Modern, but we will also use other supplemental texts. This textbook breaks down each period or unit into topics, and we will refer to it often throughout the year. Click here to access the digital copy of the AMSCO Prologue (pre 1200 C.E.) for Period 0. As we move through each period, you will be assigned study guides to help organize your notes and better prepare you for the writing portions of the AP World History: Modern exam.
The summer assignment is broken down into three tasks. That’s about one task every 4 weeks during the summer. Plan ahead and budget your time. You are expected to fully complete all three tasks of your summer assignment by the first day of school, Monday, August 10, 2026.
Finally, welcome to AP World History: Modern! You should be proud of yourself for choosing a challenging and rewarding path. You will be asked to work very hard, but you will also gain experience that will serve you well in future endeavors. Competitive universities look at your transcripts to see if you have challenged yourself and opted for the most rigorous course load available at your high school.
Have a great summer. Rest up, relax, manage your time, and be ready to hit the ground running in August.
1. Complete all three tasks (found in the toolbar at the top of the page).
2. All three tasks should be fully completed prior to the first day of school.
3. You will be required to use the content of these assignments in class during the first few weeks of the school year.
