Participants are presented with a 2 × 2 contingency table and are asked to judge the nature and extent of the relationship between the two variables on a 21-point scale ranging from –10 (strong negative association) to +10 (strong positive association).

The score is the correlation between the response of the subject and the true association between the variables (Δp) across the 25 items.
