This page outlines how to complete sophomore service projects and suggest service events.
We love when you volunteer at events in your community, and we appreciate it even more when you go out of our way to help a cause that you care about. That's why sophomores in NHS are organized into groups of about six students for the purpose of an introduction to event organization and just one more way that you can make a difference in others' lives.
Every month, one group organizes a Sophomore Service Project. This encourages members to:
connect with organizations in our local community,
develop a personal network,
develop leadership skills,
and exhibit professionalism in verbal and written communication.
Please make sure you are aware of your assigned month and make sure to take the necessary actions to fulfill your projects. Start looking for potential partner organizations at least one month before your assigned month.
Focus on finding service events
Stay away from donation–driven events
Find a partner organization that needs many volunteers because your group should not be the only one attending your event
Take a look at the groups and connect with your team via text, email, etc.
Once you have a good idea of what you'll do for your event, complete a Project Intent Form and send it to our Sophomore Service Projects Team at nhsoiler@gmail.com.
Then, make a copy of the Sign Up Sheet Template by clicking “File” then “Make a copy.” Fill in the information and give us editing access by clicking “Share” and typing our email into the box labeled “People.” This should be completed two weeks before your event to give us time to share it in an email to all NHS members.
When at the event, one member of your sophomore service project group should sign volunteers' verification logs.
