Dr. Hrishikesh Bhaumik is currently serving as a Professor in the Department of Information Technology at RCC Institute of Information Technology (RCCIIT), Kolkata. He completed his M.Tech and PhD(Engg) in Computer Science & Technology from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (erstwhile Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur). He is with RCCIIT for more than Twenty two (22) years now. Apart from his regular role as a teacher in the IT department, he is currently serving as Faculty-in-Charge (Legal Affairs), Convener of Institutional Advisory Committee and Convener of Industry Institute Partnership Cell at RCCIIT.

Prior to joining RCCIIT he has worked with the Instrumentation Division of Lawrence & Mayo at Mumbai and Nasan Medical Instruments at Pune. He has worked for several industry connect programs at RCCIIT for companies like IBM, Campus Connect programs for Infosys and Cognizant to name a few. In 2008, Dr. Bhaumik received appreciation from Mr. Srikantan Moorty (Sr. Vice President & Head of Education and Research) at Infosys Technologies Ltd. for his contribution to the American Express sponsored project “XML Data Collection Component of Business Process Sniffer Tool” undertaken at Infosys Development Centre in Bhubneswar. He received several sponsorships for carrying out research in Grid Computing from International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA), Italy and International Atomic Energy Agency. He acted as a major contributor to the EUIndia Grid project during 2010 to 2012. In 2011, Dr. Bhaumik also worked in close association with the Institute of Physics and Mathematics (IPM), Iran and e-Science Lab in Trieste, Italy for setting up a computational grid in Tehran.

Dr. Bhaumik has acted as a coordinator and resource person in several AICTE and TEQIP sponsored workshops held in different parts of the India. He was previously the Head of the Dept. of IT (2013-14) and acted as the Nodal Officer (Academic) for TEQIP II (2012-2017) at RCCIIT. He was also In-Charge of Training and Placement Cell at RCCIIT (2018-2019). Dr. Bhaumik has acted as Organizing Secretary and Program Chair for several IEEE conferences held at RCCIIT. His research interests include Soft Computing applications for Content Based Video Retrieval Systems, Text Mining and High Performance Computing.
