The Heritage and Transnationalism Network (HTN) is an ACHS-network dedicated to processing transnational heritage-related questions.
1) To facilitate debates development of new initiatives within the field of heritage studies.
2) To facilitate collaborations and professional connections.
3) To help develop new academic work through collaborative grants, publications, and conferences.
4) To enhance the interdisciplinary dialogue among scholars and enrich the understanding of heritage in a global context.
(From the ACHS website)On May 13th 2025, the Heritage and Transnationalism Network (HTN) held their inaugural meeting. Present were 17 scholars and practitioners representing 14 different countries in five different continents.
Topics explored revolved around heritage and its intersections with mobility, identity and global governance.
Overlapping areas of interests and specialties among the participants were connected through three themes, as identified through analysis of presentations and discussions:
Memory, Identity & Post-Conflict Heritage
Heritage, Mobility & Diaspora
Geopolitics & Global Heritage Governance
The HTN is at the beginning of its journey, bringing together an initial cohort of 17 scholars and practitioners from across the globe. By focusing our early work on memory, mobility and geopolitics—and pairing thoughtful governance with regular, well-scoped gatherings—we aim to seed collaborative research, policy insight and public engagement that capture the genuinely transnational character of heritage today. We warmly invite colleagues who share these interests to join us as the network grows.
