4-H has contributed to my personal development by helping me with my people skills and learning how to handle stress. Through all the activities that I have gone through 4-H many times, I need to know how to handle different situations. Knowing how to talk to people or calm them down is a great skill that I will most likely be using in my future career. In Camp Counselor training we learn about human behavior and how to tell if something is wrong. We also learn the ways we can help solve problem, from being homesick to abuse or harassment, I have learned several safe ways to handle and calm someone. This is slao the case when I am working on Jr. Fair board. many times parents come in wanting to know why their child didn't get this award or someone took something of theirs, in these cases it is hard to be someone younger than them. Sometimes it's scary but by watching other members and the way my advisors handle the parents, I have learned how to handle most situations. But there are those times where you need an adult to help you. I have learned when these situations are and come to realize I need help at times. Most of the experiences I have had to handle were stressful. A lot of these were when I was a Camp Counselor. From planning a whole camp to taking care of over 100 children all at once then having to do a lot of this with people who don't all think the same was hard. Through out the experiences I learned how to handle myself, when I need a break, and how to solve the problems with the easiest and simplest solutions.
Leadership is a very important skill to have in life and in work place, beacuse of 4-H and FFA I have been able to advance my skills and further my growth for the future. When you are given a leadership role it comes with a lot of resonsibility, and it is not just given to you, it is earned with hard work. I have been put in a leadership role many times throughout the years I have been involved in 4-H and FFA. From a committee member to club President, leadership is everywhere. I have been given the chance to learn and improve my skills through my club, Camp Counselor, Jr. Fair Board, my chapter, and in my community. Every single one of these opportunities has helped towards being a good leader and a better person.
In the future, I hope to graduate college with a double major in Agricultural Education and Animal Sciences. Be being in 4-H and FFA it has shown me what I want to do with my life. I definitely want to teach. I know that now especially from the experiences I had while being a part of Camp Counselor. It really gave me confidence to stand up in front of people and talk, which was harder begore. It also gave me a voice to speak up and make sure my opinion was heard in group discussions. I also want to major in Animal Sciences because I love working with animals and I want to know everything there is about them. I can absolutely say being part of Jr. Fair board helped me realize it. Working with the animals and their owners gave me so much joy I knew I had to do something with them in the future. Finally I really wanted to know more about agriculture in general. I wanted younger emmebers to look at me and see all the fun I'm having in these youth activites that they wanted to do them too. I want to be a role model and make the next genreation love 4-H and FFA as much as I do now and forever.
