The Parent Council works collaboratively with the school to promote parental / care giver involvement and support school improvement.
The Parent Council is made up from parents / care givers who have children at the school and at various stages of their education from 1st year through to 6th.
Being part of the Parent Council at Hazlehead Academy provides a fantastic voice in the running of the school and to find out about all aspects of school life without a significant time commitment.
The Parent Council has three elected member positions of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
For 2021 / 2022 the following members were elected to the current positions:
Co Chair: Anita Martin
Co Chair: Catriona Cooper
Secretary: Senga Vang
Treasurer: Jane Dickson
Elected positions are for a period of 2 years with voting in carried out at the AGM.
In addition to the elected members, the Parent Council has a number of non-elected members who can vote on Parent Council matters.

Hi, I’m Jane Dickson, I’ve been a member of the Hazlehead Academy Parent Council for several years now and the Treasurer for the last few.
I joined the PC so I could be involved with the school, meet other parents and support the parent-lead initiatives. Our daughters went to Fernielea Primary before moving onto Hazlehead Academy.
Our eldest daughter has left Hazlehead now and our youngest is in the senior phase. The PC is welcoming and relaxed and I would encourage anyone thinking about coming along to the next meeting to go for it.
Catriona Cooper
Some of the many recent Parent Council activities:
Participating in the development of a new set of Values for Hazlehead Academy.
Contributing to discussion on achievement at Hazlehead Academy.
Meeting regularly during the course of the year.
Providing panel members for interviewing prospective senior staff.
Being a Parent Council member benefits both the school and parents / care givers. The school gets parental / care giver input and feedback. The parents / care givers find out information on how their child is taught, how the school operates and how it deals with all aspects of school life. Parents / care givers also get to know the school management team & staff. Joining the Parent Council has a minimal time commitment. We meet monthly during the academic session with meetings usually lasting no more than an hour.
Should you wish to join the Parent Council, or wish to discuss any aspect of the school’s operation, please get in touch. There are a number of ways to get in touch with the Parent Council:
