Kindergarten-5th grade music classes
Kindergarten-5th Grade Music Curriculum
The Hazeldale music curriculum is designed using national, state, and district standards. Both Mrs. McMillen and Ms. S-J are also certified in the Kodaly and Orff approaches to music education, and use concepts from those trainings to build engaging lessons centered on music literacy and joyful exploration of music.
If you would like to see what concepts we will be working on by grade you can take a look at the scope and sequence by grade below:
special Opportunity with BSO
The Beaverton Symphony Orchestra has teamed up with PSU music education students and our school district to provide lessons and free tickets for our students and their families for the concert on March 17th at 3pm, performing at The Village Church. A message with the link to request tickets has been posted to all Hazeldale families, please email Ms. S-J if you did not get that message and would like tickets. Here are some resources if you would like to prepare for the concert!
Overture to Italian in Algiers by Rossini An overture gives bits and pieces of music you will hear throughout an opera or musical play
Violin Concerto Op. 82 by Glazunov A concerto has a solo instrument taking turns with the orchestra, sharing musical ideas back and forth
Symphony Number 8 by Dvorak This symphony is a long, multi-movement work with dramatic changes in tempo (speed of the music) and dynamics (how loud or quiet music is played)
