Color Guard
What is color guard?
Color Guard is a type of performing arts consisting of aspects of dance, music, and equipment work. A 'sport of the arts', if you will!
During the fall, the Color Guard performs alongside the Marching Band with equipment such as flags, sabres, and (mock) rifles. Occasionally, they also use props such as batons and fans. Stay tuned for the Fall 2023 show announcement! Music selections include Where the Streets Have No Name, Asphalt Cocktail, Empire State of Mind, and Urban Dances!
Winter (or Indoor) Guard begins in late November! During Indoor, the Guard competes independently, without the Marching Band, as part of the Atlantic Indoor Association. During the 2022 season we made our debut as Hayfield's very first indoor team with our show Secrets. During the 2023 season, we worked hard and placed at every competition with our show Warriors, including 1st Place for CGSRA1 at AIA North Championships!
What are the benefits of joining color guard?
Community - Color Guard & Marching Band allow you to make new friends, build relationships and provides you with a strong support system. Maybe every extracurricular says this, but we really do feel like a family!
Fitness - We also help you get out of the house and get active! Color Guard is a fun and unique way to strengthen your body and push yourself!
Future Impact - Color Guard does a great job of teaching you life lessons that are practical in the real world. Sure, you're learning to spin a flag, but as you do, you're also learning discipline, control, and self-sufficiency. Aside from that, Color Guard is an extracurricular that'll look great on college applications and resumes. Stick with Guard long enough, and you could even run for leadership!
