Piano and Violin lessons
I offer individual lessons in piano or violin. Lessons are given one on one in my home in Cambridge. Lesson length varies depending on student level and attention span, but usually are a half an hour in length.
Lessons focus on:
Technique
Music appreciation
Music reading and understanding
Artistry
Music theory
FUN!
We smile and laugh a lot here, and all of the above happen as we build a relationship of trust and care.

About me
Sharing music is one of my greatest passions. I began studying piano in 1st grade and violin around age 10. I played violin through college in orchestras and have played informally over the past 20+ years in church, for weddings, and in small groups. Along the way I've dabbled with guitar and cello, and love to sing.
Although I only have been teaching formal music lessons for the past couple years, I have been working with kids from age 2 through high school in various capacities for more than 25 years. It has been so rewarding to combine my loves and watch students grow.
Resources/Curriculum
Piano - Faber Piano Adventures offers a comprehensive introductory piano experience including note-reading, technique, artistry and theory. I like to use it as my foundation and supplement with games and other activities.
Violin - I start violin students using Essential Elements for Strings to introduce the basics of technique, note-reading and posture. Then we will progress into music from the Suzuki school of music.
With both instruments we will add sheet music and possibly other exercise books as students progress or show special interest. If you come across any great resources that you would like to share, let me know and I will add them to this page.

I am currently looking into some different curriculums. I will post later.
Supplies for Piano:
Piano or keyboard for practicing
books (see above - I can order)
folder for music (optional but helpful)
footstool if your feet don't reach the ground (optional)
Supplies for Violin:
Violin and bow with case
Here is a buying guide from Musician's Friend about what to look for.
Shoulder rest of your choice*
rosin
cleaning rag (any cloth will do)
music stand
books (see above - I can order)
folder for music (optional but helpful)
*Shoulder rest options
Sponge - Just like it sounds. A piece of foam or sponge usually rubber banded onto your violin. This is the cheapest option. Make your own.
Inflatable - an inflatable cushion that straps to the back of your violin. Adjustable amount of air to fit you. Playonair is an example.
Clip on shoulder rests: These are more firm/structured and generally have feet that clip to the sides of the violin. Kun is an example.
I have used all 3 types at different stages of my life. They all have pros and cons. The sponge and the inflatable are very comfortable but can move more. The sponge can slip off more easily or the rubber band break. The clip on offers more stability, but less movement. I currently have a Kun and it works well for me. It's about fitting your body, not your violin. Some master violinists use them and some don't. I like the stability.
