My name is Carey Anderson, and I am a second-generation Hawaii Prop Master of 45 years. I have done many films and TV shows, a big one being the original Hawaii Five-0 and the Five-0 Reboot. I worked as Jack Lords' personal assistant earlier in the season, so I have seen the show's history and its props from early on. Original Hawaii Five-0 Badge authenticity seems to be a very controversial topic in the collector's world. In my time working for Mr. Lord, I have seen 12 badges made in total, six being from Sun Badge & Co., and the other six from Waipahu Gun Shop. The Badges made by Waipahu Gun Shop are the original Hawaii Five-0 Prototype Badges; Sun Badge Co made the second badges, Blackinton Badge Co made the reunion badges, and the Hawaii Five-0 Reboot badges were designed and ordered by me but manufactured in China. For close-ups, they used the Blackinton Badge Co badge. In season 5, they switched to Smith and Warren Badge Co. This badge is the "UNIT," and the badge itself has been made larger, and on the back side of it, it says "PROP BADGE."
The year after Jack Lord passed away, I held a memorial celebration at Diamond Head Film Studios in his remembrance, which also fell on the 30th Anniversary of Hawaii Five-0. The members that attended ranged from the show's cast to police dignitaries from the state, the chief of police, prosecutors, Entertainment Tonight, John Nordlum, and Marie Lord herself… (You can read more about this if you click our tab “Five-0 30th Anv”). Blackinton Badge Co made the badges used at Jack Lord's celebration (as mentioned above). The material of these badges is a 7 oz .999 fine sterling silver and was resented by Chief Lee Donohue to the actors.
When Hawaii Five-0 Reboot was announced to be released by producer Peter Lenkov, I reached out to him and made him badges for the show. Since then, I have been Peter Lenkovs “go-to guy.” I have made junior investigator badges, keychains, challenge coins, cast and crew wear, crew jackets, and t-shirts, and continued to create badges for him until season 5.
