Explore Nepal's diverse ecosystems on this immersive conservation program, developed with the Nepal Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC). Experience the intersection of wildlife protection, community engagement, and sustainable development across one of the world's most ecologically rich regions.
Begin in Chitwan National Park studying Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinoceros, and Asian elephants alongside conservation scientists, examining human-wildlife coexistence challenges. Continue to the Himalayan foothills in the Annapurna region, exploring mountain conservation efforts and discovering how local communities and Indigenous knowledge inform sustainable land management and ecotourism. Conclude in Kathmandu meeting with policymakers, NGOs, and conservation leaders to understand Nepal's environmental governance while visiting UNESCO World Heritage sites and examining how cultural preservation balances with environmental protection.
Gain deep insights into the complex relationships between people, wildlife, and land, understanding Nepal's unique conservation approach through both scientific and community perspectives.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all UW students.
Application preference is given to students in Haub School and Honors College programs.
PRE-REQUISITES
None.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Application and possible admission interview required. Applications will be reviewed and processed in the order they are received.
PROGRAM FEE $4,000
The program fee is subject to change. Selected applicants will be able to review program fee before confirming participation. Financial assistance available through scholarships.
What's Included lodging, transportation during the program, entrance fees, instruction, excursions, and most meals.
What's Not Included round trip transportation to Nepal, select meals (including travel days), UW Education Abroad fee, and UW tuition/fees for spring semester credits.

Visit sacred temples and UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu, discovering the cultural and spiritual dimensions of Nepal’s landscapes.
Participate in community-based conservation projects, contributing to hands-on efforts that support both biodiversity and local livelihoods.
This program involves active outdoor experiences requiring moderate physical fitness.
Participants should be prepared for extended periods of sitting, walking on uneven terrain, moderately strenuous hiking (optional), and rustic accommodations.
You'll spend full days outdoors in Nepal's diverse environments with variable weather conditions, across different elevations. The program may include jungle treks, mountain hiking, and field work, carrying personal gear, and adapting to basic accommodations in remote locations.
