Prof. Dr. Hartmut Egger

Welcome!

My name is Hartmut Egger and I am an economist working on international trade and labor markets. While my research is mainly theoretical, building on general equilibrium models, I usually provide some empirical evidence to test the main hypothesis of my research. 

I am Professor of International Macroeconomics and Trade at the University of Bayreuth and member of the Research Networks CESifo in Munich, IfW in Kiel, and GEP in Nottingham. I am previous chairman and current member of the Standing Field Committee for International Economics of the German Research Foundation. Moreover, I am editor-in-chief of the German Economic Review and associate editor of the Review of International Economics. I am also member of the Scientific Advisory board of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

I obtained a PhD in Economics from the University of Zurich in 2004 based on my thesis entitled "Outsourcing in Global World". For my research I have received several awards, including Young Economist Award of the Austrian Economic Association, the Award for the best PhD thesis at the University of Zurich, and the Excellence Award in Global Economic Affairs from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
