Computer Networks is a fundamental course that introduces students to the principles, architectures, protocols, and technologies used in modern computer communication networks. The course provides an understanding of how computers and other devices communicate and exchange data over networks.
Students will learn the fundamental concepts of network models, data communication, transmission media, switching techniques, error and flow control, network addressing, routing, transport protocols, and application-layer services. The course also introduces students to the functioning of commonly used networking protocols and technologies.
The course helps students develop the knowledge required to analyze, design, and understand computer networks and their practical applications.
The course aims to enable students to:
Understand the fundamental concepts and principles of computer networks and data communication.
Explain different network architectures, protocols, and layered network models.
Understand data-link layer protocols, error detection, error correction, and flow control techniques.
Analyze network-layer concepts including addressing, routing, and packet forwarding.
Understand transport-layer protocols and mechanisms for reliable data communication.
Explain the functions and services provided by common application-layer protocols.
Develop the ability to analyze and apply networking concepts to real-world communication systems.
After successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
CO1: Explain the fundamentals of computer networks.
CO2: Applying the concepts of computer networks to demonstrate the working of various layers and protocols in communication network.
CO3: Implement the principles of protocol layering and routing protocols in modern communication systems.
