INTRODUCTION
Nursing Informatics implies the incorporation of technology in the nursing education and information to accommodate and have control over health information. (CNA,2023)
Computer skills, research based practice, time management while working with hospital information systems are the key factors of nurses informatics competency (Khezri and Abdekhoda 529).

Patient safety has always been a priority of healthcare management, and introducing informatics in patient safety is to educate the staff and achieve better patient outcomes without errors.
The Canadian Nurses' Assosciation stated policy statement for introducing informatics in nursing in our nation health data system. The use of technology is not new, it is been used since the period of Florence Nightingale in the United States and even earlier from the time of Jeanne Mance founded the first hospital in Montreal,Canada (1642). Various forms of machinery were used in the past like ventilators and incubators in 1903. The policy included an initiative , The National Nursing Informatics Project, to develop a national consensus including skills, knowledge and other educational components.

Patient safety might include :
Patient protection from harm
Medical Errors
Adverse drug effects
diagnostic errors
Treatment delays
Infection
Patient Fall

Nursing informatics can help with improving patient safety with help of informatic tools to analyse and identify the risks and complications that can occur while giving care to the patient. Professionals who have knowledge of informatics work with the care continuum in order to fulfill the technical and clinical responisbilities. It includes applications and technologies such as -
Computer Based Patient Record: Electronic Medical Records and Personal health Record
Computerised Physician Order Entry
Wearable devices
Portable monitors
Improved access to the medical ward: the EMR can be accessed from several different locations at a time, as well as by different providers.
Decreased repetition of data entry: for instance, allergies and vital signs need only be entered once.
Increased time for client care: more time is available for client care because less time is required for documentation and transcription ofdoctors orders.
Decision support tools as well as alerts and reminders notify the clinician of possible concerns or omissions/ errors.
(Azadi, n.d.)
Allows health professionals to monitor patients, even if they are distant
This equipment monitors vital signs, ECG , respiratory rates etcetera.
Nurses will get an alarm notification if there is an emergency.
(WGU,2021)
It helps doctors to place orders for patient care through technical system hat transmits them to various departments.
For instance- Medication orders, diagnostic tests, radiology orders.
Essential Function is to provide right care to the patient. It includes drug checks like drug interactions , expiry dates.

Structured
Maintains order
Patient recieves right drugs
Eliminates error due to writing issues
Medication errors are reduced because of clinical decision support.
Transparency of ordering process
Acts as a modeule of EHR

To conclude, patient safety and informatics is all about ensuring the health of patient by mitigating omissions and various technological applications such as CPOE, Portable Machines etcetra . Patient Safety is priority for any health institution and it can be made easier by incorporating informatics that can help the officials and lessen their burden. Significant improvements can be made through these ways in the health industry. It is being adapted by various doctors, nurses and other officials to make sure there is no negligence while providing care to the patient. Patient safety is all about patient satisfaction, which can be made easier by using the tools mentioned above.
