DUMP INVESTMENTS IN GENOCIDE!
The administration of the City of Los Angeles City and the Board of Directors of LACERS retirement fund have invested millions of dollars directly in the Israeli occupation, apartheid and genocide. They own stocks in companies (both Israeli and U.S.) that manufacture weapons and surveillance technologies used against the Palestinian people, and in their war against Iran and Lebanon.
There are 14 index funds that buy stocks outside the U.S. that the LACERS Board of Directors have invested in. (If you want to nerd out, here is a spreadsheet using data from the latest LACERS performance report) Twelve of them reportedly invest in the Israeli military sector. Their total investment is more than $6.3 billion and, reportedly, between 1% and 3% of each of these index funds are invested in Israel. That means it is likely that the Board of Directors of LACERS is using City employee's retirement money, (deducted from their paychecks) to lend about $70 billion to the Israeli occupation and genocide forces!
We are calling for total divestment from the machinery of genocide!
The Mayor's office appoints 4 of the 7 directors of the LACERS retirement fund. We demand that the City government of Los Angeles and the Board of Directors of the LACERS fund divest from companies that contribute to the Israeli military’s horrific human rights abuses in Palestine.
The LACERS retirement fund is mandatory for Los Angeles employees. The scheme to use the money to support genocide and war preys on struggling workers' hopes of a comfortable retirement by automatically deducting from their paychecks for pension contributions, then investing them without their consent. Every worker deserves a comfortable retirement, but L.A. City workers should not be forced to fund genocide & war!

Dear City Councilor _________________ ____________,
As my City Councilor, it is incumbent on you to take action to end worker’s retirement funds being used to further the military onslaught that Trump and Netanyahu are carrying out.
The combined military forces of the US and Israel are continuing murder and terror in Gaza, Iran and Lebanon. Racist settler violence and the theft of Palestinian homes and land in the West Bank is rampant. The war on Iran has already destroyed industry, infrastructure, agriculture and hospitals. Israel's war against the people of Lebanon has taken the lives of nearly 3,500 people and displaced more than a million. The so-called cease-fires in Gaza, Iran and Lebanon have not stopped the killing of children, women and aged people, journalists and medical workers.
Funds for retired Los Angeles city workers must be divested from the Israeli military sector and from the U.S. weapons makers.
Los Angeles should make history as a city that stood up against illegal war and genocide - instead of having enabled the murder of children, women, aged people, and men.
Sincerely,
___________ _________
