In April 1903 Harold Ozanne sailed on HMS Phaeton from Vancouver to England and was stationed at the Royal Marine depot at Plymouth.
His annual reports describe him as 'A very gentlemanly young officer with good social qualities and a knowledge of colloquial French. He has athletic tendencies, is a good rider and a good marksman. Strongly recommended for advancement'
Harold qualified as a Physical Training Officer and in December 1904 he joined the 4th Cruiser Squadron (America & West Indies Station)
The fleet carried out seagoing training for Boy sailors, making three trips a year from Plymouth to Bermuda spending 30 weeks a year at sea
The vessels upon which Harold served included HMS St George, HMS Hogue, HMS Edgar, HMS Caesar and the training depot ship HMS Howe - renamed as HMS Impregnable
Plymouth October 1912 - Harold joined HMS Impregnable as the Physical Training Officer responsible for the training of 1600 Boy Sailors.
HMS Hogue was torpedoed and sank along with HMS Aboukir and HMS Cressy (upon which Harold Ozanne was Captain of Marines) in September 1914
HMS Howe was scrapped in 1920 and her timbers used to refurbish the Liberty Store in London
