'the rush' is one of the slower songs on the album, and this song is a mix of things I've experienced and felt, along with a couple of lines being things I've imagined. This song is about the ups and downs of being in a relationship, mainly focusing on the memories and wanting things to go back to how they were before. In the bridge of the song, it explains how I felt when I was being ignored during a 'situationship' - unsure of whether I was missing him, or missing the feeling of being in love.
The first and second verses are about being stuck in my head and not being able to focus or think about anything else other than the person that 'the rush' is about. The verses talk about confusion, and one of the most horrible questions (in my opinion) to exist: "are we just friends?".
I hate that question with a burning passion, as it can either lead to the downfall of two people (which it always tends to with me), or it'll be the one thing that brings two people together. It's just waiting for the response that makes me dislike it so much, because you could have hyped yourself up so much and finally got the confidence to ask, only to be let down again, which is what those first two verses are about, really.
The chorus of 'the rush' follows the pattern of most of my songs, talking about late nights and memories that aren't being made anymore because the two people ended their relationship.
I honestly think I don't need to elaborate on the bridge as it pretty much speaks for itself, however, the final chorus has changed lyrics to the other choruses throughout the song, the former being about "we" and "our", meaning both of the people in the relationship, and the latter being about "me" and "my", showing that the relationship ended and they had to move on.
It's definitely one of my more emotional songs that I "downloaded from the universe", as my mum would say, and I favour this one over others because it flowed so easily when I was writing it. I mean, the whole thing was done in twenty minutes, melody, lyrics, chords, you name it.
