Meet the Teacher
Hello families! My name is Sara Arnold, and I have over a decade of experience in the field of education. I have taught in a number of settings including public schools, Montessori classrooms, and virtual education. I have worked with multiple age groups, from preschoolers to high school students, and have taught across various subject areas. My primary passion lies in teaching not just content, but how to learn. When a student knows how to approach learning and self-growth, they truly can do anything they set their minds to!
The Foundations for Lifelong Learning 🏠
Throughout the course of my career, I gradually came to the realization that when a student struggles academically, the core issue is rarely a lack of capability. Often times, academic struggle stems from a gap in executive functioning abilities. So many learners struggle with task initiation, time management, organization, and emotional regulation, and a deficit in these skills greatly affect ones ability to learn and move through life. Executive functioning skills are the scaffolding supporting all successful learning. Traditional schools expect these skills to develop automatically, but these abilities are not at all innate, especially for those that are neurodiverse.
Harmony's primary focus is on serving home educated middle and high school students. Many executive function coaching programs focus on teaching students how to fit neatly into the public education box. Harmony, on the other hand, strives to give learners the skills they need to forge their own paths, and truly take charge of their education.
Executive Functioning and Integrative Projects Coaching 🧩
Empower your learner to take ownership of their education with personalized coaching designed specifically for home educated students! In our weekly 60-minute virtual sessions, we tackle core executive functioning skills through lively discussions, interactive games, and hands-on planning. Your learner and I will take your chosen curriculum and materials and map out a clear, structured system so they can manage their workload autonomously. Beyond daily planning, I guide students through creating in depth, integrated projects rooted entirely in their personal interests, turning their natural passions into powerful learning experiences.
💾 Working Memory: Working memory helps learners retain multistep directions and complex ideas while processing them. In our virtual sessions, we support this by creating interactive task boards, tracking goals, and organizing assignments so students don't have to carry the mental load alone. During our project work, we will use visual tools to map out multi-step research and manage project resources without feeling overwhelmed.
🧠Cognitive Flexibility: Cognitive flexibility enables students to adapt when plans shift and try new approaches when stuck. Through decision making frameworks and problem-solving activities, I help middle schoolers learn to pivot smoothly when a strategy isn't working. During their self-chosen projects, unexpected roadblocks become opportunities to build resilience and practice refining plans.
😌 Inhibition Control: Inhibition control empowers learners to resist distraction, overcome procrastination, and stay focused on hard tasks. To improve inhibition control, we discuss screen-management habits, create custom focus timers, and practice emotional regulation techniques. Through their passion projects, students will practice tuning out short-term distractions to achieve a creative goal that truly matters to them.
What sets this coaching program apart is how students are encouraged to apply these executive functioning skills. Beyond basic planning and routine management, I guide students through creating in-depth, integrative projects rooted in their personal interests.
Whether your middle schooler is obsessed with engineering design, creative writing, marine biology, or entrepreneurship, I help them transform their natural passions into powerful, multi-disciplinary learning experiences.
Through these integrative projects, students learn how to brainstorm, research, manage timelines, solve real-world problems, and implement their projects with pride. It turns executive functioning from abstract concepts into concrete tools they use to bring their ideas to life.
