I really love trees.
About seven years ago, I was an idealistic 19-year-old who knew that I wanted to be a journalist. I've always loved stories but stories have always been more than a way to escape reality or more than a comforting friend. Stories, for me, were a path to truth. At 19, I knew that I wanted to tell stories that mattered and by doing so I could create a better informed, more honest, society. Now, at 26, I believe the best way to continue this championing of truth is through librarianship. Accessibility matters and what better way to educate and reveal truth than by making it as accessible as possible? I believe libraries are the best institution we have for information accessibility. My partner coined the phrase "information steward," as a way to describe the work a librarian does. I don't want to just tell stories anymore, I want to help patrons discover the information and stories that best suit them. By giving them access to the information they need, I hope that they can learn to advocate for their selves and their communities and become their own storytellers.
