Hariswami Das, the headmaster of Sovanagar High school, was awarded the President's Award in the year 2021 for his digital educational model, which took digital learning to the doorsteps of his students during the pandemic. He also was awarded the Siksharatna award by the state government in 2021.
Hariswami Das was born in a far-flung village named Lakshmipur in the district of Dakshin Dinajpur. His father is a popular teacher and a famous writer, and Hariswami’s mother, who is also a teacher, is an incarnation of service and sacrifice. Mother’s pious attitude is the only inspiration behind Hariswami’s work in life. Born in such a sacred family, Hariswami followed in his parent's footsteps.
He graduated in 1994 from Raiganj University College and completed a postgraduate in Botany from the University of North Bengal. He completed his M.Phil degree in 2005 and was awarded Ph.D. in 2010 Dept. of Botany, University of North Bengal, titled, “Characterizations of active principles found in some ethnomedicinal plants.” The works of Hariswami Das have been published in National and International journals. He is a great teacher, writer, and motivational speaker. He is a Microsoft Innovative Educator and has completed a course on hybrid teaching at Arizona University. He is Google certified educator level 1.
To do something better and to lead the plans and projects, he joined Sovanagar High School as the Head Master in 2014. As a Head Master, the first thing he has taken into significant consideration with his team sovanagar is growing consciousness of health and hygiene. And the result is the “Nirmal Vidyalaya Award” received in 2014. The school was awarded the “Sishu Mitra Award” in 2018. The following year his school was awarded the prestigious Jamini Roy Award for Best School in the state of West Bengal by the Dept. of Education, Govt. Of West Bengal, 2019.
The use of plastic is a great threat to human society. And it is a challenge to motivate people to make a plastic-free world. Sovanagar High School has taken up the challenge in its way.
He took the initiative to introduce the QR Code system in the textbook in West Bengal state. He introduced Hybrid learning in his school. After the School reopening, when there was some restriction regarding the physical gathering, he introduced it. In this model, half of the students joined the physical classroom while the rest stayed home alternatively and joined the online classroom. The advantage of the Hybridization of learning was it reduced traffic on campus and freed up valuable classroom space.
Dr. Hariswami Das is a man of versatile genius, and he can’t take a rest until and unless the school becomes a miniature society. As a proud son of teacher parents who has imbibed in him the aim in his life – It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. And now, Sovanagar High School is the be-all and end-all of his life.
