I’m a bird lover turned into a frog lover and now a bat lover. My passion towards all these taxa was united through one word - ‘bioacoustics’. Listening to the sounds of nature, recording them and looking at the spectrograms gives me joy like no other. I have completed my master’s in Wildlife and Management from Kuvempu University. Currently at the EcoBehave lab, I’m studying how Artificial Light at Night (ALAN) impacts insectivorous bats. Pursuing my research career under Dr. Harish Prakash has got me interested in urban ecology, behaviour and community ecology. In my free time, I can be seen doing illustrations through digital art.

I am deeply interested in Animal Behaviour and Ecology. My research focuses on peculiar behavioural patterns of ghost crabs on the east coast of India. Previously worked as a research assistant in the Department of Zoology, Kannur University. It dealt with amphibian distribution modelling and mapping. We analysed how land-use affects the distribution of frogs and parasite distribution in different species of amphibians. I also explored the diversity of brachyuran crabs in Kozhikode district, Kerala, by identifying key taxonomic characters and prepared a checklist of Kozhikode District. I am a CSIR JRF fellow, qualified in life science in June 2023 and completed my MSc and a BSc in zoology.

I believe I inherited a gift to be able to spot, understand and keenly observe birds and the natural world around me. I was 7 years old when my parents gifted me a Field Guide: Birds of the Indian Subcontinent. Since then, all of my academic interests and decisions have been directed towards becoming an Ornithologist. For my Doctoral research, I am investigating the innate vocal behaviour in polytypic cryptic owl species as a tool to understand biogeographic distributions and endemism in raptors. In addition, I am also investigating obligate seasonal migration within the Indian Subcontinent and related aspects of bird behaviour.

Trained in biotechnology, I discovered my true passion in the wild—studying wildlife behaviour, biodiversity, and ecosystems. Now, I’m bridging my scientific background with hands-on conservation to protect and understand nature more deeply. I am a part of the ongoing urban bat and ghost crab project at EcoBehave Lab.
