Short term attachment with Ironman Asia as part of a school module to be part of the SCSM 2018. Was assigned to a station and tasked to recruit volunteers and come up with procedures to execute respective duties at assigned station.
Although we were assigned smaller tasks, the attachment has provided me with an eye-opening and first hand experience on what it takes to run an event no matter how small the roles may be. This attachment has also honed my critical thinking skills.
By far, this is the most notable project I worked on with my classmates. Through this project, my classmates and I had a real feel of planning, preparing and executing an event. Initially, it was meant to be a physical event. However, due to Covid-19, we had to pivot to a digital event instead. Moving an event online was not new just for us, but new territories for the event industry as a whole. In collaboration with People's Association Youth Network (PAYN), we organised a Facebook Live event for the residents of Tampines Changkat.
Working on this project with my classmates gave me a new different sets of challenges as compared to the previous event I was attached to with Ironman for the SCSM 2018. From this project, I learnt that planning a successful event is not just about the event day itself, but the whole process of planning, preparing and executive as a whole. A lot of hard work, understanding the purpose of the event and attendees' profile, coordination between vendors, preparing contingencies all play a part in executing a successful event.
As part of one of the Strategic Events Management (SEM) in semester 3.1, this module is about developing strategic solutions for business transformation within the events industry. It covers business models comprising its products, customers, operations and the infrastructure.
For this group project, we had to identify business transformation possibilities, apply value proposition concepts from both the business and customer perspectives, come up with a problem statement as the topic, produce a solution prototype and prepare a e-portfolio in the form of a Google Site, of the event business strategies documenting the whole process from start to finish.
This project involved a lot of research, tweaking, improving problem statements and solution prototypes. As during this period was also the rise of digital events as a result of Covid-19, our deliverable - solution prototype had to be of a digital or virtual solution. This group project presentation was also a virtual one in the form of a visual gallery, where the the respective group members had the opportunity to present our respective findings using online tools.
