Arts in Education
Provides culturally diverse innovative programs and activities for the students in the area of the arts and exploratory enrichment. Selects the monthly daytime assemblies for the school.
Auction
Plans and coordinates an auction of donated goods and services. Usually held every other year.
Audit
Reviews the PTA financial statements periodically and annually.
Barbeque
Organizes a back to school BBQ for Harding students and their families.
Board of Education
Informs PTA of the Board of Education discussions.
Book Fairs (Fall & Spring)
Book Fairs take place in Fall and twice in the Spring. Students are presented with the opportunity to purchase books.
This committee collects and redeems our boxtops points and also encourages members to participate in various “for points,” programs. Save your box tops from hundreds of General Mills products and send them to your child's teacher. Top participating class receives a pizza or ice cream party from the PTA.
Bylaws
Ensures the PTA bylaws are up to date.
Class Parent
Provides guidelines and support to class parents
Communications
Responsible for updating all web-based or social media platforms that are official PTA pages. The PTA unit can decide which outlets to utilize in any give school year.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Bring awareness to diverse topics concerning different cultures, holidays and experiences, highlight achievements of women and people of color. Strive for equity and inclusion throughout PTA committees and events.
Door Decorating
Organizes door decorating throughout the school in preparation for Teacher Appreciation Day.
Education and Legislation
A PTA representative attends local school board and legislation conference/meetings and reports back to unit.
Family Fun Night
Organizes an evening of family fun for Harding students and their families. Usually in December.
Fifth Grade
Plans and coordinates the 5th grade "graduation" i.e. yearbooks, t-shirts, dance, etc. and the end of year trip.
Fun Day
A day of fun in the sun. This committee organizes the days events in conjunction with the P.E. teacher.
Harvest Celebration
Plan a school-wide event to celebrate of the arrival of Fall i.e. dance, trunk or treat, etc. (Halloween)
Health & Welfare
Organizes food and clothing drives for needy families in the Lindenhurst/Harding Avenue community as well as other impromptu drives based on need.
Holiday Boutiques
Provides an opportunity for the children to shop for gifts for their family and friends. (Holiday, Mother's Day & Father's Day)
Homecoming Float
Builds a homecoming float representing Harding Avenue.
Honorary Life Awards
Reviews nominations for the Honorary Life Awards and selects the recipient(s). Awards are typically presented at our June Reorg. Meeting.
Hospitality (Meetings)
Volunteers help make everyone feel welcome by organizing light refreshments for monthly PTA meetings.
Hospitality (Teacher/Staff Recognition)
In a show of appreciation for all that Harding teachers and staff do for the students. A breakfast or lunch is coordinated and served to the teachers at the beginning of the school year and during the week of National “Teacher Appreciation Week.”
Lindy Lends A Hand
Participate in community service activities in coordination with Lindy Lends a Hand.
Membership
Responsible for membership drives to gain more members. Responsible for all membership duties on behalf of the PTA.
PARP - Pick a Reading Partner
Since 1987, the New York State PTA has been the official sponsor and administrator for the Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) Program. The primary objective of the program is to encourage reading at home. PARP is a reading program where parents and teachers work in a joint volunteer effort to encourage children to become better readers. This committee selects the theme for PARP and activities for the duration of PARP (typically two weeks).
Picture Day
Offers Fall and Spring pictures for all students.
Plant Sale (Fall/Spring)
Gives students/parents the opportunity to shop for seasonal plants and flowers twice a year, in the fall and spring. Our Spring sale is in conjunction with the Mother’s Day Boutique.
Programs
Provide programs and services to promote good physical and mental attitudes, health education, and parent education. Make information available and promote programs and projects dealing with issues affecting children and youth, which help parents become more actively involved in all areas of concern. These programs take place during PTA meetings.
Public Relations
Takes pictures of school events and submits to local newspapers and district PR.
Reflections
Reflections is a cultural arts program of the National PTA. Each year, the Reflections Program challenges students to create art that supports a specific theme.
Scholarship
Offered to two High School students who are Harding Avenue Alumni who meet the scholarship criteria.
SEPTA
A PTA representative reports back to the unit important information on Special Educational issues and workshops offered.
Special Persons Dance
An evening event typically in February where each student invites one special person. The committee is responsible for fliers, decorations, and all aspects of this event.
Sunshine
This program sends cheer to students, staff and family members to let them know the Harding Avenue PTA cares.
Sunshine Fund
Offers homemade and store bought items for purchase. The proceeds from this committee fund the Sunshine Committee. Other items such as smencils have also been sold. There is usually a sale at Meet the Teacher Night and at Spring Exhibit.
Talent Show
Organizes and promotes Harding students to showcase their talents during an evening talent show.
Ways & Means
Coordinates all fundraising activities, which helps to support all programs and activities run by the PTA.
