Freedom's Melody

"Freedom's Melody" captures the essence of maritime history embodied by the HMS Minden. This legendary vessel was the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner.

During the War of 1812, from the HMS Minden, Francis Scott Key, writer of the Star Spangled Banner, watched Fort McHenry be attacked by the British. Bombing of the fort continued and whenever the American flag was not visible it created concern for Key, as he wondered if the British had captured the fort. Yet, Key saw the American flag in the morning, which showed him that the Americans held their own against the British and did not give up the fort.

This painting of the HMS Minden invites viewers to relive moments of historical importance, where the spirit of resilience and patriotism unfurled alongside its billowing sails.

Anna's Waterfront Whispers

"Anna's Waterfront Whispers" is a fashion scarf inspired by Anna Strong, renowned for her pivotal role in the Culper Spy Ring of Setauket, Long Island.

The Culper Spy Ring, established in 1778 under the orders of General George Washington, operated in New York and Long Island, playing a crucial role in gathering intelligence about British efforts during the Revolutionary War. Strong ingeniously utilized scarves and handkerchiefs as covert signals within the Culper Spy Ring, strategically arranging them on her laundry line or tying specific knots to discreetly communicate vital information to fellow spies. This silk scarf depicts where a message in the Culper Spy Ring would originate: on Strong's household clothesline.

The scarf is perfect for wearing on the Fourth of July or dinner party, serving as a subtle yet powerful homage to those whose actions, like Anna Strong's, helped to shape American history.
