Harbans Singh Amrit rose to prominence as an architect and developer during the 1970s and 1980s, contributing to some of Kenya’s most visible infrastructure projects. Over five decades, he evolved from a building consultant into the founder of a diversified conglomerate, the Manrik Group, whose footprint spans real estate, hospitality, and floriculture.
Harbans Singh Amrit’s career has been defined by landmark projects that shaped Nairobi’s business and social landscape. His work extended from government‑linked tenders during the Moi era to long‑term investments in commercial and residential real estate.
Oversaw the construction of all Moi Girls High Schools across Kenya.
Built multiple National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) silos, contributing to national food‑storage infrastructure.
Developed Rehema House for the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya.
Owned the land and structures where Safaricom House now stands on Waiyaki Way.
Led the development of Sky Park Plaza, View Park Towers, and several other Nairobi commercial and residential towers.
Harbans Singh Amrit believed in infrastructure that lasts generations, not just short‑term gains. His approach combined commercial discipline with attention to community impact, laying the foundation for the Manrik Group’s triple focus on profit, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship.
Over the course of his career, Harbans Singh Amrit received more than 30 national and industry awards, reflecting recognition from both government and private‑sector stakeholders. In 1987, he was conferred the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), one of Kenya’s highest state honours, in recognition of his contributions to the country’s development.
Following his passing in 2016, leadership of the Manrik Group transitioned to his family, with Kaku Amrit serving as Managing Director of Manrik Holdings. The group continues to expand and modernise its portfolio, aligning with Kenya’s evolving infrastructure and investment landscape.
