If you're reading this, you most likely have recently had a kid, and now need a copy of their birth certificate. First off, Congratulations! Fortunately, this is a fairly straightforward process, so let me confirm what you have already read from Google searches and the County website.
Go to the Alameda County website (or respective county) to complete the birth certificate application. Alameda County example shown below.
At this point, you have already paid online and now need to find a notary (probably for the first time in your life)
You can look for a notary near you, or i'm happy to help too - just make an appointment online.
Print your docs and bring those and your ID to the notary.
Sign Section 4 in front of the notary.
The notary will complete section 5 on your doc and stamp it.
The notary will also record this in their notary journal, which you will sign and fingerprint.
Pay the notary and you're done! I charge $15 per signature. Please note, notaries are not legally allowed to charge more than $15 per signature. If they travel to you as an additional service, there may be separate travel charges.
For this example, you're likely getting one copy, so it will be $15 with me and you'll be done in 5-10 minutes.
