Tensioner Pulley

Happy Hummer

After looking at Bucky's H3 (affectionately referred to as Sugar Baby) we decided that it was hi time we had better change the idler / tensioner pulley out. Follow along as we remove and replace it with a new Dayco brand idler / tensioner pulley.

As a side thought you might be asking how I can tell if this needs to be done?

Using a 3/8" ratchet driver insert the stub of it into the slot on the idler / tensioner pulley and try to move it by hand. If it moves easily you probably need a new one. If it is very hard to move with a standard length ratchet your H3 is probably good to go. The pulley needs to be tested for slop and for frozen / stuck bearings. More information can be found on the web.

This is what the new Dayco Idler / Tensioner Pulley should like like when installed.  We purchased a new Dayco belt but it was not needed as the AC Del one looked brand new.
