"Happy New Year" is a song by Swedish group ABBA from their 1980 album Super Trouper, with lead vocals by Agnetha Fltskog. It originally had a very limited release as a single in December of that year. The song's working title was "Daddy Don't Get Drunk on Christmas Day".[2]

The Spanish-language version of the song, "Felicidad",[3] was released in 1980 in Spanish-speaking territories.[4] The single reportedly charted in the top 5 in Argentina and was included on the South American versions of the Super Trouper album.[5] It was first released on CD as part of the 1994 Polydor US compilation Ms ABBA Oro, and in 1999 on the expanded re-release of ABBA Oro: Grandes xitos.

In 2008, it was released again in several countries, and charted at number 4 in Sweden, number 11 in Norway and number 25 in Denmark.[1][8][9] It re-entered the Swedish and Norwegian charts in 2009 at number 5 in both charts and number 8 in the Netherlands in 2011.[1][8][6] It has since gone on to regularly chart in some countries upon the turn of the new year[1][6][7] and is regularly played at the same time such as Vietnam.[10]

In December 2011, a silver glitter vinyl single limited to 500 copies was released, including the songs "Happy New Year" and "The Way Old Friends Do". The edition was available exclusively from the official ABBA site and the ABBA fan site. It was sold out within a day of the release being announced.[11]

The song was covered by the A-Teens, and released as a single in 1999. The single was released to celebrate the arrival of the new millennium: thus, the last line in the song's third verse is altered to "in the end of ninety-nine", as opposed to the original's "in the end of eighty-nine". It reached number 4 on the Swedish charts, becoming the band's fourth consecutive top ten in the country and earning a Gold certification weeks after its release.[14] The single was only released in selected countries, including Chile, after their visit there in February 2000. A music video was made to support the single's release.

Raise a parting glass to 2023 and shed a tear if you need to. This traditional Irish song about saying goodbye to family and friends used to be the more well-known New Year's song before "Auld Lang Syne" overtook it in popularity. It's beautiful but a bit somber, so save it for the end of the night as things are winding down.

Let the kiddos have a little fun too! This catchy tune from the Disney movie Zombies will be stuck in everyone's head on New Year's Day and beyond. Wish yourself well in the new year with its positive sentiment: "Been waiting for this moment, Yeah I'm gonna own it. You can watch me shine, This is gonna be my year!"

In Vietnam, this song is super classic, super iconic for the New Year holiday. It's played at EVERY New Year Eve event, ceremony or festival. But I hear that it is not that popular in the US. How true is that?

This New Year's song is sung to the tune of "O My Darling Clementine!"

There are actions that go with this song. In order to understand the actions, you have to know the hand gestures used when wishing someone a Happy New Year in China. Young people bow to older people. But when it's friends, women wrap the right hand around the left hand (which should be loosely bent). Men wrap the left hand around the right hand (which should be in a fist). Then they wish the person a Happy New Year.

For 120 years, Times Square has been the center of worldwide attention on New Year's Eve, ever since the owners of One Times Square began in 1904 to conduct rooftop celebrations to greet the New Year. The first Ball Lowering celebration occurred in 1907, and this tradition is now a universal symbol of welcoming the New Year.

Times Square Confetti Release and Pyrotechnic Effects

The world-famous New Year's Eve confetti is released from the rooftops of buildings throughout Times Square creating a celebratory blizzard of colorful confetti as revelers welcome the New Year accompanied by colorful pyrotechnic effects. The three thousand pounds of confetti includes tens of thousands of wishes from revelers around the world hoping for peace, love, good health and a better future in the new year.

"'Sunshine!' is about a lot of things, the most obvious being seasonal depression," Shomo shared. "It's always been prevalent in my life but as I grow older, it gets more intense. This song is also about moving on from the dark place I was in during 2020-2021. At the end of the day, life should be enjoyed and a Beartooth song doesn't always have to be miserable."

I was trying to find the official music video for this song to see how those sirens are handled, for I'm feeling much the same about this song. Why else are the sirens in the background? It certainly doesn't sound like everything is peachy and peaceful that's for sure.

This is such a sweet song that after listening to it, I started buying Regina's albums from iTune.Sure, the mood is not that happy, but it is so beautiful and mixed with a little bit sadness, just like many of Regina's other songs. It makes me want to listen more and know her more.To me, the background sirens and gunshots are cleverly added to make the song sounds better and more realistic. If everyday of our life is like New Year's eve, always happy, no tear, then the life maybe terribly boring--and that kind of life only exists in heaven. Also, please note, the song says "A happy new year...to all that is gentle, kind, and forgiving", apparently this toast does not for those who are violent, not kind and unforgiving--those who loves to start wars and destroy other people's life.

hear hear farfaraway. Also, I really agree with the irony and sarcasm in this song. It reminds me of the seperations we put between ourselves and the horror out there. Here we stand... celebrating the new year... insulated from what goes on due to our leaders, our inaction and our ignornance yet we can still celebrate the blessings we have. Which isn't altogether a bad thing.

I agree with crumbs, this song is definately sarcastic or ironic. I think the speaker is either the many ignorant Americans who turn their faces away and celebrate within themselves to "a happy new year", speaking ironicly of love and joy, selfishly repeating "us, and "our," burying away the reality of all the wars and trouble that is being fought all around the globe or the speaker is some sorr of a powerful leader, like a president.

Just to inform everyone, this song is not about sarcasm or whatever. It's about the war. the planes in the backround are fighter jets and the guns going off. Shes welcoming the new year and celebrating all who are fighting for everyone else to live and who are still living.

Break out your best glassware and raise a glass to celebrate the new year. In this uplifting song, Pink advises us to love and accept ourselves no matter what. Taking that attitude into the year ahead seems only fitting.

ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson conceived "Dancing Queen" as a dance song with the working title "Boogaloo," drawing inspiration from the 1974 George McCrae disco hit "Rock Your Baby." Their manager Stig Anderson came up with the title "Dancing Queen."
