Presentations

Class will not meet on Monday or Tuesday. Our next class meeting will be Wednesday, December 5. You should have read all of Destructive Emotions by then.

In addition to reading through the entire book, you will be assigned a specific section of the text to present in class on Wednesday, along with a partner or in a small group. In this presentation, your group will take charge of our class for about 20 minutes. (You will be fully in charge. You can decide how the classroom is arranged, what sorts of things you'd like students to do, etc. Connie will be just another student in the class during this time.)

You can choose to lead class in any way that you’d like, but your presentation should include the following:

  • A brief overview of 2-3 of the most important parts of your section. Everyone in our class will have read the book, so there’s no need to summarize everything! Just spend a few minutes highlighting the sections or ideas that you think are the most important, the most intriguing, or the most relevant to our class.
  • An analysis of the above important points, or of the section of the book as a whole. How does this section of the book connect with the rest of the book? Are there any ways in which your section of the book can be placed into conversation with some of the topics and issues that we have discussed so far in class?
  • Some time for discussion. It might be helpful to pose a couple of discussion questions to the class. Here are some useful resources to help in creating good discussion questions:
