1. Who we are

Haplotree Information Project (HIP) is a non-profit organisation that works with scientific, historical and statistical research purposes for the benefit of public interest. Our website address is: http://haplotree.info.

2. What personal data we collect and why we collect it

The data that you submitted under consent e.g. via e-mail or Facebook or FTDNA is stored in a MySQL-database and further in a JSON (flatfile) according to the variables described in section 2.1 and 2.2

2.1 Data less than 100 years old

We only handle the following variables of data in our haplotree;

  1. The Y-DNA or mtDNA Haplogroup (the SNP is obviously on the haplotree)

  2. A kit.no (or similar reference @FTDNA, e.g. 297020)

  3. A Family name (e.g. Kinnunen)

  4. Origins of ancestors (e.g. Finland)

We do not keep or handle the following information:

  • Your e-mail address(es)

  • Your phone number(s)

2.2 Data more than 100 years old

In addition to data less than 100 years old we occasionally handle and publish names of deceased persons if the data is more than 100 years old.

2.3 Comments

We don’t use comments.

2.4 Media

We don’t handle media e.g. uploading of images or videos.

2.5 Contact forms

We don’t use Contact forms.

2.6 Cookies

Cookies are used on Google Site based pages only, refer to: https://policies.google.com/privacy

2.7 Embedded content from other websites

We don’t embed content from other websites.

2.8 Links to other websites

We provide links to other websites that may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

2.9 Analytics

We don’t use any analytic tools e.g. Google Analytics.

3. Who we share your data with or who we send your data to

We don’t actively share your data with any other organisations or persons for further processing. The data as described in section 2 is on a website open to public with no restrictions, hence it can be shared by anybody.

4. How long we retain your data

As long as you don’t request us to erase the data, refer to section 5.

5. What rights you have over your data

You can request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. In that case please send us an e-mail on: info@haplotree.info

6. Risk Assessment

6.1 Traceability to you as a person

Q: Can the data be traced to you as a person? A: Yes, if and when you share your own data on social media, in e-mails in connection with your name, etc., but otherwise you as a person is not directly traceable from our website.

6.2 Other risks

Q: Are there any other risk of misuse of my data on this website? A: The outcome of a risk assessment points at no other risks.
