Haoxing Tian

I am a sixth-year PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University, co-advised by Professor Alex Olshevsky and Professor Yannis Paschalidis. Before joining Boston University, I received my Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University. During my PhD, I also gained industry research experience through internships at EmergenceAI and ByteDance, where I worked on reinforcement learning and AI-driven applications.

My research focuses on reinforcement learning, with the goal of developing principled, reliable, and efficient algorithms through insights from optimization theory and control theory. I am particularly interested in understanding the underlying foundations of reinforcement learning algorithms, and using this understanding to improve their stability, convergence, and practical performance. My work spans both theory and applications, with potential impact in areas including robotics, large language models, patient monitoring, and AI-driven electronic design automation for chip design.
