Welcome to Haotian's website!
I just started my Postdoc in Economics position at the University of Turin in October 2026!
I hold a PhD in Economics at Ghent University. I obtained my Master of Finance (& Minor in Economics) from Peking University HSBC Business School in 2021. ,
I study Labour Economics and Public Economics. My research covers different microeconomic agents in the labour market—firms, employees, and households. I do both empirical and theoretical work and use both administrative and survey data. I also study Causal Inference and design new causal methods. I enjoy evidence-based storytelling.
My PhD thesis studies small firms' responses to tax cut policies, focusing on firm performance & productivity, tax incidence, wage setting, and entrepreneurship.
How to pronounce my name: How-tyen (IPA: xɑ̂ʊ tʰjɛn)
I am an economist by training, and a poet by temperament, with a long nineteenth-century's soul.
