Writers

Would you like to be included in the anthology?

Submissions are currently open. We are looking for pieces related to or taking place during Hanukkah that are written by Jewish writers only. No previous experience is necessary. To submit a piece, please fill out the form which is linked at the bottom of this page. Submissions will close on the 10th of April.

What kind of pieces do we want?

We are open to pieces of any genre (not including musical) that runs somewhere between ten and thirty minutes. The scripts must relate to Hanukkah. That could be retellings of the original story, something that takes place during Hanukkah, or a piece that plays on the themes of the holiday. If you have anything from something based on personal experiences to a piece about a superhero using their powers to cook latkes, we would love to see it!

We are especially eager to share stories from communities that aren't commonly represented in media. If you have Hanukkah stories about LGBTQ+ Jews, Jews of color, and disabled Jews, please submit them.

What else do you need to know?

There will be no financial compensation for this project. Sadly, we don't have the resources to pay anyone on the project. If your piece is selected, you may be asked to make some edits. You will be given a month to revise your piece after selection. Selected authors will be notified a month after the submission window closes. Once the pieces are selected and scripts finalized, lines will be selected to use for sides for actors to use to audition. Writers will be sent an early copy of the final production before the pieces are released in December. If you have any questions, please reach out to us on Twitter @hanukkast or send an email to hanukkast@gmail.com.
