About Hampshire Constabulary
Hampshire is one of the most interesting places in the UK to police—home to more than two million people, spread across sprawling countryside and growing cities such as Portsmouth, Southampton, and the urban hubs in the north of the county. During the summer months, the population swells even further with tourism, making Hampshire one of the largest policing areas in England and Wales.
We have retained a strong neighbourhood policing approach, with officers and staff closely aligned to the communities they serve. Alongside this, Hampshire Constabulary holds strong national influence, housing the largest non-metropolitan joint specialist unit in the UK. This capability has enabled us to successfully manage major events such as royal weddings and D-Day celebrations ensuring the safety of both local communities and visiting world leaders.

Located on the south coast, with excellent transport links up and down the country, Hampshire is one of the best places to live and work, offering the perfect blend of rural and city living with so many activities, events and places to go.
Hampshire offers fascinating history and culture, boasting some of the best urban cities in the south of England, including Winchester, Southampton and Portsmouth. Associated with writers such as Jane Austen and historical figures such as Henry VIII, Hampshire is packed with heritage sites, from the classic and iconic Winchester Cathedral to the modern naval history at the Mary Rose Museum. If you prefer more contemporary entertainment, Hampshire offers a wide range, including festivals, theatrical performances and outdoor events.
Close by you’ll find miles of lovely coastline, with beaches, nature reserves and attractive seaside towns.
World famous visitor attractions
Hampshire has several world-famous visitor attractions. These include the New Forest’s Exbury Gardens, Beaulieu National Motor Museum and Paultons Park. It’s also the home of Peppa Pig World and Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard.
Whether it’s a day at a theme park or a stroll along the decks of Admiral Lord Nelson’s HMS Victory, the diversity of Hampshire’s visitor attractions make it a truly unique place to live.
Hampshire’s beautiful countryside provides and ideal backdrop for outdoor activities. Whether you want magnificent views, a country park, somewhere to walk the dog or simply go for a gentle stroll, you’ll find miles of idyllic countryside. There is the New Forest National Park in the west, with its famous New Forest ponies and Highland cattle. In the the east you’ll find the South Downs National Park. While several country parks, such as Royal Victoria Country Park at Netley offer stunning views of the coast.
There’s no shortage of great places to eat, seek out a country tea room selling tempting homemade cakes. You could also try a traditional pub offering a welcoming log fire and a typical Hampshire atmosphere.
