MASA ISRAEL TEACHING FELLOWS
The digital platform created and designed by the professional team led by Hanny Fuks, M.A., M.Ed. at Oranim College is a “Toolbox” for MITF - Masa Israel Teaching Fellows volunteers to reach your students using enjoyable activities that will make a difference in your teaching experience.
It is designed to provide a pedagogical foundation and support you with challenges you encounter teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Israeli school settings throughout the year.
The Toolbox offers a variety of teaching resources including digital books, activities, lesson plans, games, songs, videos and more.
ENGLISH TEACHING CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
2020-2021
The Department of English Language and Literature and The International School at Oranim College were chosen by the Ministry of Education to jointly run this special one-year English teaching certificate program for immigrants with an academic background (at least a B.A.). Although this program usually begins in September, we have just received approval from the Ministry to begin the application process for this intensive program.
You are probably aware that there is a desperate shortage of English teachers in Israel. The Department of English Language and Literature and the International School at Oranim College were chosen by the Ministry of Education to jointly run an intensive English teaching certificate program for new immigrants or other candidates with a superior level of English and an academic background (at least a B.A.).
INTERNATIONAL TEEN AND STUDENT PROGRAMS
HAIFA-BOSTON CONNECTION
PEOPLEHOOD PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAM AND EXHIBITION
The Jewish Peoplehood Photography program offers an extraordinary, face-to-face, and online experience for participants from Israel and Boston who seek to explore their identity not only as photographers but also as American and Israeli teenagers. The acquisition of practical photography skills alongside theories of photography and art have been integrated with Jewish/Israeli/American identity and Peoplehood conversations. As you will see, the results are stunning and inspiring, providing a unique opportunity for a new form of personal and communal expression: the visual voice of Jewish Peoplehood. We invite you to join us in this exhibit of our participants' stories and experiences!
INTERNATIONAL PLC
MENTORING
Within the framework of the Boston-Haifa Connection CJP, 88 twelfth-grade students from five schools in Haifa, Israel, met with 49 American mentors for 8 sessions to participate in the Boston-Haifa Connection CJP Peoplehood Committee Mentoring Program. The educational staff from Oranim International School assisted the Boston-Haifa Connection CJP in designing, arranging, and implementing the educational design and logistics for this program.
The program trained native English-speaking volunteers from the Boston-Haifa Connection CJP to help prepare Israeli high school students for the Israeli Bagrut in English - focusing on their oral proficiency (matriculation exam). The English Bagrut Exam consists of four modules. Three modules deal with reading comprehension, listening comprehension tasks, and writing essays. The fourth module includes the Oral Bagrut which examines the student's ability to express themselves orally through a computerized format including various topics.
The program was created and managed by Hanny Fuks. See Porgram report: LINK
INTERNATIONAL CAFE
Meet International Students and Speak English at the International Café
We introduced a new program during the International Fair. The International Café is a new weekly event initiated by Hanny Fuks and co-led by our Fulbright Fellow, Jonathan Alegria. Oranim College students meet and speak English with international students, enjoy coffee and snacks, and join in casual, fun social activities. Each week we have a theme to participate in ranging from live music performed by students to creative workshops on various topics. With the goal to encourage students to socialize in English and the additional benefit of sharing ideas and culture from their countries, these events have been very successful and now students look forward to them.
